Android 16 Beta 3 is Available
Google has released the third beta version of Android 16, reaching the platform stability milestone. This step marks a near-final version, with only one additional beta planned to fix the remaining bugs. According to Google’s schedule, this final beta version will arrive in April. Android plans the final release of Android 16 for the second quarter of 2025, meaning they should release it by the end of June. Subsequently, a minor Android update will arrive in the fourth quarter, between October and December. This schedule change is a first in several years.

What’s New in Android 16 Beta 3
Auracast Audio Support and Accessibility Improvements
Android 16 Beta 3 introduces Auracast audio support for hearing devices compatible with LE Audio technology. Additionally, Google improves accessibility by adding outline text for users with low vision. This feature replaces high-contrast text and significantly improves readability.
Local Network Protection: A Feature in Development
Google is also testing a local network protection feature. Currently, it is available as an option for app developers. This feature will provide better control over apps that can access devices connected to the local network. Its final deployment is planned for a future major version of Android.

Android 16 Arrives on More Devices
Google is investing more in optimizing Android 16 to make it compatible with as many devices as possible. One of the key announcements concerns the arrival of lock screen widgets on more Android tablets and smartphones. For now, this option is reserved for the Pixel Tablet. Lock screen widgets were part of early versions of Android before being removed. Google plans to reintroduce them shortly after the official launch of Android 16. The final version of the operating system will arrive in June. After its deployment, developers will be able to enable these widgets on their apps.
How Lock Screen Widgets Will Work
Although the current beta version does not yet enable this feature, tests have revealed differences between devices. On the Pixel Tablet, a right swipe from the lock screen provides access to the widgets. On smartphones, you need to enable Android’s screensaver mode, which only works when the device is charging or on a dock. Smartphone manufacturers will have the freedom to choose how these widgets will be displayed. Therefore, we can expect different implementations depending on the models.

Android 16 Official Release Date
Google has confirmed that the release of Android 16 will occur earlier than that of 15. The launch is scheduled for the second quarter of 2025, between April and June. A new rumor even specifies the exact date: June 3, 2025. On that day, Android 16 will be available in the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) and will begin its OTA (Over-The-Air) deployment on Pixel smartphones. 16 Beta 3 marks a major step forward with improved features and greater accessibility. The final version will arrive in June, with expected improvements in local network protection and the return of lock screen widgets. Google is preparing…
